Finding stories in ordinary places

How a night platform, an old ticket and ten quiet minutes became the first scene of The Night Train.

Stories rarely arrive as complete ideas. More often, they begin with a detail that refuses to leave.

For The Night Train, that detail was a paper ticket found beneath a platform bench. It had no remarkable destination, but it made me wonder who had missed the journey and why.

Keeping a small notebook has taught me to notice these fragments without forcing them into a plot too soon.
